100 things

00:00
Good morning guys!

How was your weekend? Sam and I went out for dinner to celebrate his mama’s birthday, there were 17 of us in total and it was a pretty loud affair. It’s a week after her birthday, but it’s nice to be able to celebrate with the whole family. I also love an evening of a) not cooking, and b) not paying ;) Who am I to turn down no dishes too? #winning

I wanted to kick off a fresh week, straight after Valentines and family time, with a whole heap of reasons to be grateful. Sometimes it’s super easy to get swept up in the daily complaints; the traffic, the messy home, the never ending laundry and so I wanted to take some time to myself to really think about what I have and what I am grateful for.

Maybe this could be a list for me to refer to in the future when I’m feeling down – who knows! 100 is a long list, so let’s get started…

  • Fresh coffee. Any type, any size, so long as it’s hot and fresh
  • Fuzzy socks on hard wood floors
  • HAVING hardwood floors – the original boards from 1892 when the house was built. I am obsessed
  • Being able to look around our home and see so many pieces from family members – a coffee table here, a Picasso print there, a handmade dining table…the list goes on. We have such thoughtful and loving family
  • Our Dyson V6 cordless hoover – life changing
  • Stove top kettles. Why are they so cute in comparison to a standard one? I ADORE our little blue whistler, there’s nothing nicer than hearing Sam pad downstairs to put the kettle on and knowing that the whistle means caffeine is coming!
  • Our up-and-down house. Nothing is on the same level, the walls are as wonky as anything and nothing fits snug. I. Love. It.
  • Axel’s yowl in the morning when he wants feeding. Not the most relaxing of alarm clocks but definitely the furriest
  • Sheepskin rugs to snuggle your toes in
  • Goose feather duvets to snuggle your whole body in!
  • Views over the river and parks from our bedroom window, super refreshing early in the morning
  • Our plans for the dining room, garden, and guest room renovations this year
  • MY plans for the extra bathroom and kitchen renovations this year ;)
  • Netflix and the ability to re-watch your favourite shows again (Gilmore Girls, Gavin and Stacey, Gossip Girl) and not having to remember which disc/episode you’re on
  • Being within walking distance of my bank, supermarket, nail salon, tattooist and favourite coffee joint. Best house buy ever!
  • The Right Move Game
  • 2-4-1 tickets for the cinema when you use a certain comparison website. I love cheap(er) date nights!
  • The views from my office window – it’s so desolate and beautiful..
  • Oversized (read Sam sized) sweaters and knits, that I can tuck my knees into
  • A good bottle of merlot
  • Rice milk – a new favourite over Almond milk. I feel as though the pressure on the environment is a lot less when rice is already grown in enormous qualities compared to the droughts almond farming can cause.
  • YouTube and the ‘watch later’ feature – such a good idea
  • Chicken
  • Slow cooked chicken, which falls off the bone and not only gives Sam and I three meals each, but also bones and juice for stock!
  • Food blogs, The Food Networks and recipe books
  • This blog as an outlet for musings and thoughts
  • ASOS in general
  • Ankle grazer trousers; my one and only’s thanks for my miniscule 5’3 frame
  • Corner bath tubs for stretching out and relaxing in the evening
  • M&S being right next to Pet’s at Home; killing two appetites with one trip
  • ‘Freeport’ – the local shopping mecca which houses designer outlets, crazy good restaurants, a cinema, bowling alley AND a sports bar arcade – the one stop shop for a fun night out
  • Having friends within walking distance of our home makes for super casual plans on the regular – I adore it so so much, and it’s probably the best thing about where we live
  • Sunshine peeking through the February gloom
  • Water, and how refreshed I feel when I drink enough
  • My bullet journal and it’s organising ways
  • Being reassured by my Accounts Manager that I do indeed look after my money, and having an overdraft isn’t something to be scared of. Use what is given freely!
  • Gloom Games on YouTube – the most hilarious female gamer
  • Sleeves long enough to tuck your hands into
  • Planning holidays with brochures, web searches and memories – NOT just price and destination
  • The perfect fudgy brownies
  • Having a best friend that MAKES those perfect fudgy brownies
  • Having the same best friend since I was 5
  • Planning our future together curled on the couch with hot cocoa and the fire blazing
  • Building a home inside a house; knocking down walls, painting and decorating, choosing carpets. The works. I love the process, and love the end results just as much
  • Privacy tint for our garish and outdated, oh and also totally glass, front door
  • Sam’s growing love for veggies. I’m not sure if veganism is in our future, but I’m sure proud to say that ‘Broccoli is my favourite vegetable’ fell from his lips!
  • Ham, cheese, lettuce, and wholegrain mustard sandwiches – the best combo ever
  • Oversized shirts that drape over your frame beautifully
  • Bralettes
  • Licking the bowl after baking
  • Courgettes in any way, shape, or form
  • Firewood that crackles as it burns
  • Tobacco / musk scented candles for the home, as well as vanilla scented ones too!
  • Cards with gimmicky messages aka. We’re meant to Bee with a buzzy little bee on the front, so cute!
  • Web Whatsapp, a bloody lifesaver
  • Rediscovering the Sims, but not so impressed with the £50 price tag(?!)
  • Friends having babies
  • Almost having owned our home for a year, say what??!
  • Finally caving in and buying a tumble dryer – how can sheets and towels still be damp 3 days later, even with the central heating on?
  • The tiny house movement. It makes me keen to stay in our house for as long as humanly possible. Storage solutions for our little two bed, mid-terrace are definitely worth the investment compared to increasing our mortgage by a chunk
  • Pinterest
  • Borrowing both children and dogs from friends and family when we need our fix of cuddles and playtime
  • Our family – grandparents, parents, cousins and niblings. Whoever you are, we love you!
  • Concealer for those nights where I stayed up too late on an Instagram scrolling marathon
  • The car starting every morning. Small mercies
  • Sam and I have this whistle that we do when we’re in shops/the house/out and about and we’re not sure of each other’s whereabouts. It’s like a secret code and it makes me smile!
  • Spring is coming – SPRING IS COMING!
  • Pyjamas and the healing properties of robes
  • Forever grateful that Harry Potter exists
  • Paracetamol, heat gel and warm baths. They are a luxury when my Crohns is bad
  • Getting to help friends plan they upcoming nuptials
  • Any meal you can eat from a bowl; spaghetti, soup, rice bowls, smoothie bowls, ice cream, stir fry…you name it.
  • Plant life, and being able to kiiiiinda keep it alive
  • Nail appointments that afford me 2 hours to just be
  • Our shed painted the cutest blue shade – I can’t wait to finish sealing that this year, and actually get a starter on the back garden area too!
  • Multiple iPhone chargers because their battery SUCKS
  • Running in the house to hot water, central heating and food ready to cook. I will never not be grateful for that.
  • Memory foam mattresses which make my osteopenia much more manageable
  • Homesense bargains
  • The wifi at work – without it, I would be totally screwed!
  • Grateful for enjoying cooking – it would be seriously boring if I didn’t considering I do it every night..
  • Group messages with friends about triple dates and the food that’ll be consumed
  • The thought of summer bbqs with fairy lights, garden furniture and beers – the excitement is already building!
  • Anything with goat’s cheese. Who know goats cheese would be my favourite cheese one day??
  • I’m grateful for photo albums, and memory boxes. This year, Sam and I are building a memory jar of all the places we’ve eaten, places we’ve been, gigs etc etc. I’m excited for New Year’s Eve to open it up and see what we did over the year
  • Breton anything
  • £3 perfect mascaras
  • Discovering the combination of ginger, soy sauce and honey – it’s my go to stir fry/sauce for most chicken or beef dishes now.
  • M&S meal deal for £20. Thanks to them, Sam and I have a pre-planned, ready to go dinner waiting for us on Valentines including the dessert, wine and chocolates! How bad can that be? Not bad at all!
  • Having a home. So many people are just one or two missed cheques away from being on the streets, and I feel truly grateful to be in a position where at 23, I was able to buy a house. I strive to never be in a position where I could endanger this, and I know it’s a work in progress but I hope to be doing the right things to secure my future
  • The amazing diversity of chickpeas
  • The amazing diversity of the world these days – I love having so many flavours, cultures and people contribute to my life each day. I am very happy in the fact that I dress like I’m Scandi, eat like I’m western European and live my life with some of the best anecdotes and ideas from around the world. Try ‘Motherhood around the World’ on Cup of Jo, it’s a serious eye opener!
  • Contraception and a boyfriend who also believes in the condom. Imagine being in a place where having a baby or not wasn’t your decision. Some of the stories you read are harrowing
  • Bleach – for when the purple hair dye and red marinara sauce land on your white clothing items. Oops.
  • Daddy daughter conversations.
  • ‘Angels and Demons’ by Dan Brown. The best, most exciting and thought losing book I’ve had the opportunity to read. My copy is battered and bruised, well loved for sure.
  • How much my remaining grandparent now visits. Whilst I miss the hills of her home in Scotland; I love that she’s close enough to visit for weekends now.
  • Fresh sheets
  • Smoked paprika in everything
  • Life.
